About Newby Wyke Brewery

Based in Grantham, South Lincolnshire, we are brewers of award-winning real ales, using only the finest Lincolnshire barley and American and English hops. Newby Wyke (H111) was an old 178ft Hull steam trawler built for West Dock Steam Fishing Company. She was the last of the West Dock "Wykes". All the ships were named after villages in the Bridlington & Scarborough area. Her funnel colour was black with a wide red band - our casks now bear similar markings. She was skippered by the brewer’s grandfather, hence the brewery name. Brewing began in November 1998 in a converted garage at the brewer’s house. Trade grew nicely so expansion and a move came in August 2001 from a 2.5BBL plant to a 10BBL one, with a capacity of thirty barrels a week.
