Like the fact, the cellar door is at a museum, or the idea for the beer started with a bottle. David Walsh built the brewery at his Moorilla Estate winery, which he’d always referred to as Moo Land, and this formed the basis of his brewery’s name – Moo Brew.

Bruny Island Beer Co. started with a conversation between a cheese maker and a brewer. Nick Haddow, founder of Bruny Island Cheese Co., and Evan Hunter, formerly of Tasmanian stalwarts Seven Sheds, Moo Brew and Lark Distillery, designed the brewery around a shared enthusiasm for fermentation and regionally distinctive, artisan produce. The brewery was built behind the cheesery in Great Bay, Bruny Island and our first beer was released in February 2016. The unique brewhouse has been built to Evan's specifications using recycled dairy equipment sourced from local farms. While we maximise the quality and consistency of our products with a mix of old and modern technology, we practise a simple approach to brewing - one that harks back to older methods of making and maturing beer. We brew slow beer in small batches, and lift, tip and stir everything by hand, knowing that quality is only attainable through determination and hard work. Our beers are available on tap and in bottles throughout our Cellar Door on Bruny Island, our Hobart shop, through the Cheese Club and our online store as well as in good bars, restaurants and bottle shops throughout Tasmanian and elsewhere.

Chris and partner Jess Coniston are the founders and driving force of Little Rivers Brewing Company. After a stint working at Burleigh Brewing in Queensland for two years, Chris and Jess returned to Tassie and spent many months researching and planning Little Rivers. Eventually the site was selected in Scottsdale, and Stephen and Tracy Love joined them to form the final four directors / partners. Prior to Chris's time as a brewer at Burleigh, Chris was a winemaker for 7+ years at Tasmania's Pipers Brook Winery. His knowledge and winemaking experience were key attributes for his new venture, and as a brewer in his own business he hit the ground running. Six months into establishing Little Rivers in Feb 2014, an entire new brewery system and building expansion was needed to meet demand. November 2015 saw the new kit installed and operational. After struggling to meet demand for our core beers in the early years, we're now branching out with specialties and new brews to enjoy.

Established in 1824, Cascade Brewery Co. proudly holds a revered place in Australia's Brewing History. From humble beginnings as a sawmilling operation in the foothills of Mount Wellington, Cascade is now the country's oldest operating brewery. The business was founded by English settlers, Peter Degraves and brother-in-law, Major McIntosh, who arrived on Tasmania’s shores in 1824. Plans for Cascade Brewery were born during Degraves’ stint in the old Hobart Gaol, serving time for an offence that he had committed prior to emigrating. Degraves recognised that he had access to the pure waters flowing from Mount Wellington and devised a strategy for a groundbreaking brewery. Upon his release from Gaol in 1831 Degraves set about realising his vision to brew a genuine and pure beer and in December 1832 the first Cascade Brewery Co. beer was sold. Cascade Pale Ale is Australia's longest continuously brewed beer, with a heritage stretching back to 1832. Today Cascade continues to uphold Degraves' values, brewing beers "that cannot be excelled" behind the gothic sandstone façade of this iconic brewery. Pure Tasmanian water sourced from Mount Wellington and Tasmanian grown hops and barley continue to form the backbone of our brews. The Cascade brewery is also the home of Mercury Cider producing a range of delicious Tasmanian ciders.
