Founded by Erich Christian Dahl in 1856. Bought out or merged with several other local breweries in the 1800s and buying Nordlandsbryggeriet in 1978. The merger with the chocolate producer Nidar in 1986 resultet in Nora Industries becoming majority owner in 1987. This resultet in Nora Fabrikker (subsidiary of Nora Industrier) and Ringnes Frydenlund merging in 1988 becoming Ringnes AS. In 1995 Ringnes and Pripps (Swedish) was merged and in 1997 Orkla bought out the minority owners. This gave way to a partly sale to Carlsberg (Denmark) in 2000 and full out sale in 2004. In the following years Ringnes (Carlsberg Norway) had wanted to close down all other owned breweries (incl E.C.Dahls) but had been vetoed by Carlsberg. Product lines were slowly moved from Trondheim to Ringnes' new plant outside Oslo, but E.C.Dahls remained. In 2014 Carlsberg announced they would invest 110m NOK in creating a craft brewery centre at E.C.Dahls while Ringnes grabbed the final product lines. In 2015 Brooklyn Brewery was announced as a joint venture partner in the project. In 2016 the brewery re-opened still producing their flagship pilsner, but now also a range of partly ever-chaning craft beers. The brewery is a sister brewery of Nya Carnegiebryggeriet outside Stockholm, Sweden (joint venture between Carlsberg Sweden and Brooklyn Brewery). The brewery has open doors for anybody to come and see and visit, and includes a well-stocked pub and restaurant. Tours and tastings are available.

Moe Gårdsbryggeri ble etablert i 2014. Vi er opptatt av å bruke lokale råvarer og av videreforedling av eget korn. Vårt øl er brygget av korn vi selv har sådd, tresket og maltet. Vi er stolte av vårt øl som skiller seg fra de fleste andre ved at vi bruker egen basismalt. I et ekte håndverksbrygg som vårt, er hver batch unik, likevel særpreges de fleste av våre øl av god fylde og mye maltsødme. Ølet selges fra vår gårdsbutikk Mastubua og fra Gulating/Mathallen i Trondheim. Vi har også ambisjon om salg via vinmonopolet og fra eget serveringslokale.
