About Whim Ales

We are a ten-barrel microbrewery specialising in producing top of the range cask ale using the finest Maris Otter malt, whole cone hops, Derbyshire hill water and our own freshly cropped yeast. Whim Ales started in 1993 in an outstanding location at The Whim Farm near Hartington in The Derbyshire Dales, Peak District; the brainchild of owner Giles Litchfield, who wanted to make use of redundant farm buildings and have more beer than even he could drink. The remit: to consistently make fantastic beer; and to consistently make fantastic beer that is not bland or tasteless. This seems to have done the trick. 27 years on and no compromise or short cuts on quality has earned our reputation as consistently producing exceptional beer.
