About Wantsum Brewery

In 2009 James Sandy brewed “Fortitude”, the first of an extensive range of beers named after people or pivotal events in Kent’s history. We produce 10 core ales and many seasonal and special ales, sold to pubs and shops in the South East. We take our name from the Wantsum Channel, the watercourse separating the Isle of Thanet and the Kent mainland. In the time of Henry VIII, this channel was the mooring place of the King’s Fleet; the brewery sits on what was one of the major tributaries. Our iconic crest was designed by local artist Tom Miles and is an adaption of the local Reculver tower. We were a 6brl brewery but grew to 12brl in 2012. We use British barley and a variety of hops from around the world including the famous Kentish ones.
