About Shapeshifters Cinema and Brewery

Shapeshifters Cinema, Brewery & Cafe is a destination for experimental art, small batch hand-crafted beer, and delicious food and drinks made from locally sourced ingredients, located in a pair of Victorian buildings in Oakland, California. The mission of our Cinema is to provide a venue and support for contemporary artists working with experimental and artist-made film, video, sound, music and other types of mediated performance. In addition to regular, live events, we offer workshops on experimental moving image and sound production and a storefront shop specializing in print publications, sound recordings and other artist-made media. Our intimate, 40-seat theater is located in a 150 year old Victorian building on the historic Bret Harte Boardwalk in Oakland’s Jack London District. We brew beer onsite in small batches using locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. We're proud to brew with barley from Admiral Maltings, who source grain from family owned farms in California that use sustainable practices. We operate a neighborhood cafe, where we feature food and drinks made with coffee roasted two blocks away, produce sourced at the nearby Jack London shipping hub, eggs from just north, and locally baked bagels and artisanal bread.
