About Rare Bird Brewing - Australia

IT ALL STARTED WHEN… Three men with a passion for beer and limited budgets started brewing it themselves more than 20 years ago. It was a heady time back in the nineties. Craft beer meant Coopers or maybe a redback wheat if you were really adventurous, and homebrew was what you drank because you couldn’t afford the real stuff. We started off with cans of malt extract, adding as many kilos of sugar as we could manage to fit in the fermenter. As we grew up a bit and gradually got real jobs, we could afford to use actual brewing ingredients - like hops and malted grains - and we started experimenting. A few years ago we all ended up living in the same neck of the woods in the north-east suburbs, and one night over a few frothies thought, let’s start a brewery! We started to come into some scavenged stainless steel, first from an old chocolate factory, then from a closed down cheese factory. A lot of weekends, a lot of electronics and a big mess later, Rare Bird Brewing was born!
