About Macalister Brewing Company

Macalister Brewing Company, established 2017, is located at the base of the picturesque Macalister Range, 20 minutes North of Cairns, at Smithfield. We are a small microbrewery producing a range of craft beers by hand, for the love of beer! We brew fresh, unpasteurised, unfiltered, preservative free, naturally conditioned beers for the Cairns Region to enjoy. Our brewery was born out of a passion for brewing tasty fresh beer that got a bit out of control! Our founder and brewer Rob has a degree in Chemistry and worked for many years as Plant Manager in the Chemical Industry. For the last 9 years, however, he has been teaching Chemistry at the local high school. A few local homebrew competition wins fuelled the obsession, followed by a state and a national category win. This then led to a 4 year Graduate Diploma in Brewing Science at Federation University, and then opening a brewery.
