   Founded in the summer of 2011, Slow Boat began as a small pilot brewery nestled high within the mountains surrounding Beijing. We are proud to offer small-batch brews that push the creative boundaries of Chinese craft beer and we are dedicated to furthering the Chinese craft movement by making beer that China is proud to call its own. We are driven by the desire to create and to ultimately witness those creations bring people together. In terms of philosophy and approach, we adhere to strict, self-imposed standards. Superior beer is made with superior ingredients, so we don’t cut corners when it comes to the quality of our malt, hops, yeast and water. Slow Boat remains true to its Beijing roots by referencing Chinese culture through the use of local ingredients and unique beer names.

   Why 京A? When we kicked off our adventures in brewing, we knew we wanted to be uniquely Beijing, and proud to be local. We wanted a name that somehow encompassed the gritty charm, and hip, old school feel of the Beijing we know and love. The character 京 means “capital”, and is the mark that can be found on all the license plates in Beijing. The significance of the “A” is more subtle. When Beijing first began issuing car license plates in the late 90s, the first batch of car owners got 京A plates. Now a new car owner is lucky if she can register a 京Q license plate. In this way, 京A has come to represent the original. The old school.
