Whyte Bär Brewing Co (pronounced White Bear), was founded in 2018 by Joel Barnard and Andy Whyte. The two met and discovered their mutual passion for beer at university. Whyte Bär Brewing Co was born out of a love for modern craft beer as well as a deep respect for the breweries constantly looking to move the modern beer scene forward. Our ambition is simply to make our mark on the craft beer industry, constantly look to push boundaries and make some sensational beers while we do it. At Utopian Brewing our mission is simple: to celebrate incredible British lager. From our independent brewery in picturesque Devon, we brew in a traditional way but with our own interpretations of classic styles, using only 100% British grown ingredients. Against this kaleidoscope of wonderful home grown ingredients and producers it was an easy decision for us to significantly reduce our food miles by choosing to brew only with 100% home grown ingredients. Allied to this, the UK is the only country to have strongly focused on building natural disease resistance, making our hops both environmentally friendly and more appealing. Very few British hops are irrigated, making them some of the most environmentally sustainable in the world.

Since changing our name from Topsham & Exminster Brewery in 2008, we have expanded ever more rapidly. We now have a fantastic site in Cowley Bridge Road where we have a retail shop and Tap-Room Bar. The Tap-Room is open every Thursday evening from 5pm to 11pm. Curry nights. Every last-Friday of the month the Tap room opens as normal, but we offer a curry, prepared and served by ARC Events. You don’t have to eat, just enjoy a drink, but the curries are great – takeaways available too.
