BentSpoke Brewing Co is the brainchild of Champion Australian brewer Richard Watkins and Tracy Margrain. On June 6, 2014 BentSpoke threw its doors open in the inner Canberra suburb of Braddon to overwhelming support from the local community. 3000 litres of beer was served in the first week at the single venue. In November of 2016, BentSpoke released its first two packaged beers in cans. This next chapter for BentSpoke is made possible by the new production brewery known as ‘The Cannery’ in the northern Canberra suburb of Mitchell. Richard is Australia’s current longest serving craft brewer starting his career in 1994. 9. DUNBAR Brews
Roseville, Australian Capital Territory, Australia
Inspired by the lack of a real English style bitter that can be drunk on either a hot or cold day, DUNBAR Brews are newcomers to the Sydney craft brewery scene. Founded by two Pom’s and an Aussie with a passion for English bitters, the brewery takes its name from the DUNBAR, an English merchant ship which sunk off the coast of Sydney in 1857. Still one of the biggest maritime disasters in the country, it involved the remarkable rescue of a lone survivor and the subsequent approval for the Hornsby lighthouse to be built. Many a tribute has been made over the years. This is ours. Sample a taste of history.
10. StoneAge Brewing
Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia
StoneAge Brewing is a local Canberra microbrewery producing top quality, hand-crafted beer in small quantities. Located on premise at King O’Malley’s, we always have a StoneAge beer on tap. Come in and check out what’s pouring today! StoneAge Brewing is one of the smallest micro-breweries in Canberra starting out in late 2016. Originating in small beginnings, this brewery has vision to expand to a wider market. It was formed by two guys who started brewing in their garage, but took the opportunity to brew exclusive beers for King O’Malley's Irish Pub in Canberra. There’s a core range that rotates through on tap, but because of their small size they’re always experimenting to make something new for people to try. These beers are maltier in taste which is bucking current trends and takes inspiration from traditional English beers whilst still fitting into the Australian craft beer scene. Currently, these beers are still exclusive to King O’Malley's and you can catch one of the brewers (Mark) behind the bar weekdays who is happy for a chat about all things beer.
