Why 京A? When we kicked off our adventures in brewing, we knew we wanted to be uniquely Beijing, and proud to be local. We wanted a name that somehow encompassed the gritty charm, and hip, old school feel of the Beijing we know and love. The character 京 means “capital”, and is the mark that can be found on all the license plates in Beijing. The significance of the “A” is more subtle. When Beijing first began issuing car license plates in the late 90s, the first batch of car owners got 京A plates. Now a new car owner is lucky if she can register a 京Q license plate. In this way, 京A has come to represent the original. The old school.

Slow Boat remains true to its Beijing roots by referencing Chinese culture through the use of local ingredients and unique beer names.
