5. BrewDog
Ellon, Aberdeenshire, Scotland
MARTIN AND I (JAMES) WERE BORED OF THE INDUSTRIALLY BREWED LAGERS AND STUFFY ALES THAT DOMINATED THE UK BEER MARKET. We decided the best way to fix this undesirable predicament was to brew our own. Consequently in April 2007 BrewDog was born. Both only 24 at the time, we leased a building in Fraserburgh, got some scary bank loans, spent all our money on stainless steel and started making some hardcore craft beers. We brewed tiny batches, filled bottles by hand and sold our beers at local markets and out of the back of our beat up old van. Our biggest mission when we set up BrewDog was to make other people as passionate about great craft beer as we are. And that is still our biggest mission today.

7. Reids Gold Brewing Company Ltd
Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire, Scotland
Reids Gold is situated in the beautiful town of Stonehaven, in the North East of Scotland and is currently run solely by its owner and creator, Barry Reid. He focuses on using as many locally sourced, fresh ingredients he can and is lucky to have the purest Scottish water to ensure the best possible craft beers can be made. The beers are not filtered or messed and traditional brewing clarification methods are used to retain all the lovely flavours and all the beers are naturally carbonated through secondary fermentation which enables the important bottle conditioning time you need to ensure you receive a top quality product. He does sometimes brew to certain beer styles but doesn't want to be tied down by restrictions and he believes the best beers are made by being inventive and thinking out of the box and putting your own spin on what you do. The time of boring bland beers in gone and it's time to try new things and open the doors to new flavours and enjoyment. A lot of love, care and attention goes into each beer created and quality, taste and customer satisfaction are the most important aspects of all the beers. He loves to brew, he love to invent and he is proud to be here. He only brew beers that he believes in. We love beer, we love Reids Gold.
8. OGV Taproom
Aberdeen, Scotland
Controlling the flavour of a beer is much like controlling energy โ it requires scientific knowhow, the right equipment and a bit of an appetite for adventure. OGV Taproom has been developed by the team at OGV Energy, a well-established media group within the energy industry. It started with the idea of making one beer for promotional purposes, then in no time, we decided to move forward and produce a whole range. True to our roots, our collection is inspired by the energy sector, with a mix of sharp, buzzing and electrifying flavours. Some people would call it crazy to launch a brewery in the middle of a pandemic, but with adventure at the heart of our brand, we are always looking for the next challenge.
